The Human is Beyond Value 15 December 2008Posted by MOZAFFAR in Misc.
It is a profound experience to confront the death of a loved one. But, is it a profound experience in any capacity, when we learn of the death of someone who is a stranger? I am not speaking of the stranger whose death is noticed by the front pages of the newspaper. I speak of the person who lived a life with a parent and perhaps a family, who lived a life that at times was full of hope and at times full of fear. I speak of the person who cried as a baby, and giggled as a toddler, and played as a child, yet, is known only as a single digit number in calculation of casualties. That person is given far less consideration in his/her death, than is the tyrannical political leader who was responsible for the death. We know the Pharaoh, yet we do not know much of anything about those whom he persecuted.
A human is worth more than all that the universe contains. A human is worth more than all the gold in the universe. A human is worth more than all the priceless gems in the universe. A human is so valuable, that it is impossible to calculate the value of two humans. It is impossible to calculate the value of 1000 humans, or even a civilization of humans.
The overwhelming majority of the atrocities of the human race were made possible, when the “other” was reduced to something less than the beyond-value human.
And Allah knows best.
