Abu ‘Amir b. Sayfi (Ibn Sayfi) was an ascetic in Yathrib. He was “the Monk.” He used to wear hair shirts. He claimed to be a follower of the religion of Abraham.

Muhammad -p- arrives in Yathrib, claiming to be a prophet of God.

In the short time after Muhammad’s -p- arrival, Ibn Sayfi notices his own popularity waning as quickly as Muhammad’s -p- was flourishing. Ibn Sayfi questions Muhammad about his religion, and the beautiful Prophet -p- tells him that he himself follows the religion of Abraham.

Ibn Sayfi, fierce from anger, claims that he himself is a follower of the religion of Abraham. And the Prophet -p- responds stating that he himself is bringing it pure.

Ibn Sayfi, fierce from anger, shouts that the liar among them should die a lonely exile!

He leaves, furious. He heads out on a trip to Mecca.

The Prophet -p- agrees.

Incidentally, Ibn Sayfi did not return.

But, the Monk had a son. Hanzala b. Abi Amir b. Sayfi. He did not leave.

To be continued, Insha Allah …
